Export
Pilgrim's is doing our part to feed the world, exporting quality products to approximately
85 countries across the globe.
Exporting Great Taste
Consumers around the world have a growing appetite for chicken from the United States,
and Pilgrim's is meeting that increased demand by shipping more chicken products
to more countries than ever before. Today we export products to approximately 85 countries
including countries in Eastern Europe, the Far East and other world markets.
Our export products consist primarily of whole chickens and chicken parts sold in
bulk, either refrigerated to distributors in the United States or frozen for distribution
to export markets. Additionally, we sell some Pilgrim's branded and non-branded
fully cooked chicken products internationally, as well as prepared chicken products
for export to the international divisions of our US chain restaurant customers.
Here are a few examples of our export products:
- Rockingham Franks, co-packed using Pilgrim's chicken, are the top-selling U.S. chicken
hot dog in the world. Haiti is the biggest market for the franks.
- Several hundred truck loads of Pilgrim's chicken (mostly deboned meat, whole birds
and leg quarters) are driven to Mexico each month. Mexico imports approximately
20,000 tons of U.S. poultry per month.
- China is the largest importer of chicken paws from the United States. Chinese consumers
often use them in stews or eat them boiled. What is the difference between feet
and paws? Feet have part of the lower leg attached. Paws are only the lower portion
of the foot, just below the ankle joint.
- Chicken sold in the Middle East requires Halal certified production certificates
and labels. These Halal labels indicate which foods are permissible to eat under
Islamic law. Pilgrim's sells a full line of Halal certified fresh chicken.
